The Charlotte Fire Department welcomes members who value teamwork, communication, service, and thoughtful roleplay. The CFD application is the starting point for joining the department and learning how our training, probation, and advancement process works.
Fire & Rescue is our frontline opportunity, focused on fire suppression, apparatus operations, search, rescue, scene safety, and coordinated emergency response. Applicants should be ready to learn department procedures and contribute as part of a crew.
Forestry & Rescue supports wildland, brush, remote-area, and complex rescue incidents. This specialty requires patience, resourcefulness, physical awareness, and a willingness to operate in challenging environments. The Forestry and Rescue application is coming soon.
Emergency Medical Services focuses on patient care, triage, treatment, transport, and clear communication with fire crews and partner agencies. EMS members create calm, professional medical roleplay from the first patient contact through handoff. The EMS application is coming soon.
Fire Marshals focus on prevention, inspections, public education, and incident investigation. Members help the community understand risk before an emergency occurs and help turn lessons from incidents into safer practices.
Internal Affairs protects standards and accountability across the department. This work depends on discretion, fairness, confidentiality, and a commitment to improving the organization. The IA application is coming soon.
Special Operations Command handles specialized and high-risk scenarios that require advanced preparation, disciplined decision-making, and close coordination. SOC members must demonstrate maturity, reliability, and professionalism under pressure. The SOC application is coming soon.
All applications are reviewed by department leadership. A submission does not guarantee acceptance, rank, access, or placement in a specific subdivision. Follow the instructions in the CFD application and use the department community channels for questions about current openings.
